About KittyBoy ::
"Where he comes from somebody knows. (KittyBoy®
was abandoned in a trashcan.) Where he's going everyone goes. (Where
do we go?) The wind blows and everyone goes."
The story of KittyBoy® is both personal and universal at the same time. He
was orphaned as a young kitten, deliberately placed inside a
trashcan on a city sidewalk.
A tiny kitten cry was his only link to
the outside world. It was a kind and caring heart that saved his
little life.
To this day it seems as though KittyBoy®'s early experience has had
an enduring effect on his personality. Although he has been through
all of the growing pains common to felis domestica, it is a
"I know not what" philosophy that has preserved KittyBoy® through
many challenges including dogs, children, other cats and trees.
Family, friends and acquaintances know that there is something
special about KittyBoy®. Whether it is his overly affectionate
behavior, his haunting midday howl, his seemingly blank stare, or
his "Come what may" attitude, one encounter with KittyBoy® is a life
altering experience.
Life with KittyBoy® has inspired artist and animal advocate Karen
Warwick. A monoprint entitled "KittyBoy® in the Studio" marks the
beginning of a new world, a KittyBoy® world. The print is a sketch of
the artist's studio. Within the sketch is a silhouette of KittyBoy®
(just as he sat) staring at the cabinet. The silhouette had a
provocative quality; it captured the artist's imagination.
The print inspired an oil painting and again it contained a
silhouette of KittyBoy®. The image was mysterious and alluring. It
seemed to be partially a product of life with KittyBoy® and partially
a product of imagination. One painting led to another and soon there
was a collection.
The collection was named after its first painting: "Brave New
KittyBoy®". The title and painting capture the courageous and novel
aspects of both the art and KittyBoy®. The paintings and monoprints
debuted in a World Premiere in Spring 2002 in Pacific Grove,
California U.S.A. Art aficionados, cat lovers, adults and children
alike enjoyed the exhibit.
Since then KittyBoy® has traveled the world through the imagination
of the artist. "Around the World in 81 KittyBoys" documents via fine
oil paintings the journey from Africa through Central Asia,
Australia and to all parts of the world. The collection will debut
in 2008.
On behalf of KittyBoy® and animals and habitat in need of aid and
protection the artist donates 100% of all profits to
non-profit animal welfare programs.
